Your home has been through a lot.
You’ve prepared it for company, for holidays and for surprise visits from the in-laws. You may have even prepared it to welcome a new member of the family.
So why wouldn’t you put that same time and consideration into preparing it for air duct cleaning?
Chances are, you may not know where to start.
Don’t worry, First Call is here to help.
The truth is, preparing your home for air duct cleaning doesn’t have to be a major production because we supply all the materials needed to do the job and protect your home, property, and the items that are most precious to you.
Why Air Duct Cleaning Is Important
Air duct cleaning is important because it creates a cleaner environment, reduces the number of allergens in the air, and makes your home heating and air conditioning more efficient.
How to Prepare Your Home for Air Duct Cleaning
We’ve taken all you need to know and boiled it down into a simple process.
First, make sure every vent is accessible.
This means you may have to move kid’s toys or anything that is directly above the vent registers. This ensures that the technician can easily reach the areas that need cleaning.
Second, give us a quick tour.
We like to know where each vent is located and all the areas that you expect to be cleaned. We’ll go over this in greater detail when we discuss your scope of services, but we want to be sure that nothing is overlooked.
When we meet you in-person, we want you to rest assured and be aware that we are taking all precautions necessary during a time of COVID-19. When we visit your house, we will be wearing personal protective equipment designed to keep everyone safe.
We also make sure our work areas are contained. This means that no contaminants will ever enter your home, living, or workspaces.
(You can read more about how we’ve adjusted our procedures in a time of COVID.)
Third, decide upon your schedule
By this we mean that we’ll determine the amount of time the project will take to complete. Obviously, a smaller home with simple ductwork will be finished faster than a large house or office building.
You may decide to stay while the work is being done or you have the option of returning when the work is completed.
Does Air Duct Cleaning Make a Mess?
This depends upon the company you use.
Some companies may take shortcuts in the interest of getting a job done quickly as opposed to doing it well. At First Call, we carefully prepare the area to ensure there is no dust or damage to any items in your home. We carefully contain our area, so particles don’t get free in your house.
Most importantly, we treat your home with the same care and respect that we treat our own. We know that trust is something that must be earned, and all you have to do is speak with our past clients to understand why First Call was the right call.
How Often Should Air Ducts Be Cleaned?
In general, they should be cleaned annually or at least every three years. If you’ve completed a major renovation project or you’ve noticed some trouble with allergies, it may be a good idea to schedule an air duct cleaning even if it’s not time for your regularly scheduled maintenance.
Can I Clean Air Ducts Myself?
Well, of course you can…but it requires specialized tools and brushes that you likely don’t have on hand.
In addition, if you’re not incredibly careful, you can actually spread dust and other contaminants from the air ducts throughout your home, compounding the problem and making it worse.
Typically, air ducts are cleaned by our professional technicians using high-powered vacuums and specialty rotary brushes. We’re able to completely seal the vents not being cleaned at the time (if you don’t do this, dust and dirt will blow out when you’re cleaning other areas!)
Time is another reason that air duct cleaning isn’t a DIY job. What may take you an entire day, our company could do in a matter of hours, ensuring that dirt and dust don’t pollute your home.
When you consider all these factors, do you really want to take a chance doing it yourself?
